NYRA to offer real-time racing and wagering information
Published on Nov 3, 2008
Sona Mobile Holdings Corporation has launched a mobile wagering application, mWager, for the New York Racing Association (NYRA), a private, not-for-profit association that operates the three largest racetracks in New York.

NYRA will launch mWager initially on Blackberry and iPhone devices and will follow in the coming weeks with Pocket PC, Smart Phone and browser-based (WAP) offerings.

The introduction of this application will extend the functionality of NYRA's current online wagering by giving its NYRA Rewards account wagering customers the ability to wager on thoroughbred racing through mobile phones and PDAs.

As per the deal, Sona Mobile, a provider of secure software solutions, will receive a percentage of each wager transacted via the mWager application.

In terms of benefits, NYRA Rewards mobile wagering patrons will be able to view detailed race programme information such as horse name, owner, trainer, jockey, runner number etc. Information such as updated current odds for each horse in races live or simulcast that NYRA offers would also be available.

Other functionality will include the ability to view race results, account balance and wagering history.

The launch follows the recent final approval by the New York State Racing and Wagering Board for mobile wagering.

The NYRA operates the three largest racetracks in New York: Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course.
