Published on Dec 14, 2009

Ladbrokes has launched its iPhone web application for sports betting. The new offering, which has been developed by Mfuse, has emerged at a juncture when the iPhone models are increasingly becoming more affordable in the UK.

The company, which has already seen over 25,000 active customers on its existing mobile services, says its range of betting markets are all accessible via the iPhone App - including its range of betting in play markets.

Ladbrokes has identified that mobile betting and gaming will be a key driver of growth in the sector in the next few years. In terms of progress, the company expects its mobile services to be up by 60% over the full year.

In the UK, where according to Apple there are over 1.5 million iPhone and iPod Touch users, the iPhone 3G and the 3GS models are becoming increasingly affordable. Tesco, the UK’s largest supermarket, is set to shake-up the iPhone market in the UK by offering 12-month contracts when it starts selling the popular consumer gadget. Deals to be offered by Tesco Mobile, the supermarket group’s joint venture with O2, will include a monthly tariff of £20, a third lower than competitors, on a 12-month basis, excluding the price of the phone.

A 24-month contract, which includes a free iPhone 3G, would cost a total of £702 over two years with Tesco Mobile.
