Gambling firms use SMS marketing for relaying last minute messages

Mobile marketing firm www.txtlocal.com has recorded a steady increase in the number of gambling businesses using its online SMS marketing service.

SMS is being described as “highly effective in relaying last minute messages in a push to get customers through the doors”.

For instance, the company says Ladbrokes-owned Crayford Greyhound Track in Kent has been using SMS marketing with success, describing the tactic as a viable option for sending out last minute reminders just prior to an event.

Other companies like private members club The Big Slick Poker in Purley also use SMS messaging to promote a busy schedule of events and tournaments.

Txtlocal MD Darren Daws said businesses should concentrate on using mobile to build databases of consumers who have opted in to receive targeted offers, alerts and information from marketers.

The company highlighted that 75 percent of people check their text messages immediately, and text is a highly viral marketing tool capable of going far beyond initial recipients alone since “it’s common for people to forward text news and promotions onto their friends”.
